WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF MISSOURI

No One Does More For Veterans
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Commander's Corner

Commander Quincy Myrick

As 2025 draws to a close, I reflect not only on my VFW year but also my personal year. Personally, I have had a busy year. VFW has taken up most of my time and I have tried not to let family time suffer.  Sometimes it is a struggle for me as I am sure it is for most of you.  Now for the VFW stuff.  Veterans' week in Branson was great. I saw a few Missouri Comrades and I hope to see more next year. I was able to attend the DeSoto Veteran's Day Parade with my Post and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a visit from Todd the NVS VFW Quality Assurance Specialist, he visited some of our VSO sites and met with all our VSOs in Jefferson City. MO VSOs routinely are top performers in our division, something we can all be proud of. We have a lot to look forward to in the near future. Shortly, I will be in Jefferson City to draw the Washington Conference winners. Most of us are busy with our PP and VOD applicants. The banquet in February is a highlight for many of us. As we move into 2026 we must make legislative actions and membership a top priority. They truly go hand in hand. We fight for all Veterans rights and the higher our membership number, the more our legislators listen. Let's not miss out on any recruiting possibilities. Brag about the VFW and the great things we accomplish. 101% is very attainable, let's meet this goal together, as comrades.

In Service To Veterans,

Quincy Myrick

Department VSO Information

A Veteran Service Officer (VSO) helps veterans, and their families navigate the complex process of applying for benefits and services from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). They assist with filing claims for disability compensation, pensions, healthcare, education benefits, and other services. VSOs also help veterans gather necessary documentation, ensure claims are properly submitted, and guide them through appeals if their claims are denied. VSO's act as advocates, making sure veterans get the benefits they are entitled to.

Editorial from the Webmasters

The Department of Missouri Website is a living document dedicated to Missouri Veterans.  The site is for the dissemination of news, information and ideas to the membership.  With that said, we are asking members to share their activities and stories with us to pass along.  We are wanting committee chairpersons to share what they are doing on a more regular basis.  Receiving updates quarterly at the COA convention is fine, but it does not reflect current activities.  We would like to publish a Newsletter at least Monthly to keep the membership in tune with the latest happenings.  In addition, we know that several members were taking pictures at the COA.  We would love to have you share them with us to post on the Department Gallery.  All you need to do is email them to us with a description and we will do the rest.
Become an active participant in the Department Website.  This is your chance to participate.

IN-COUNTRY

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.
