WELCOME TO DEPARTMENT OF MISSOURI

No One Does More For Veterans
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Commander's Corner

Commander Scott Huffman

Comrades,

I am humbled to represent you as your Department Commander for 2026-2027.

I am excited for us to be "Gung-Ho” – working together toward a common goal for the benefit of all Missouri’s veterans, their families and our communities!

When I ran for Surgeon in 2023-2024, I promised to visit as many of Missouri’s Veteran’s Homes and VA Hospitals as possible during my term as Department Surgeon.  That promise was fulfilled as I visited all Missouri Veteran’s Homes and VA Hospitals during that term. I learned much that year concerning the care our veterans received and of the work done in local areas by our Districts and Posts.

I campaigned for Junior Vice Commander for the 2024-2025 term with an emphasis on teamwork and a belief in the  VFW and Auxiliary working together!

My focus of effort then, and now, remains as follows:

- LEGISLATIVE we must get louder with ALL voices of the VFW and Auxiliary being involved in the legislative process;

 - AUXILIARY we must work together at every level to help our veterans and communities;

- REINVIGORATION OF POSTs we must work together to find new and innovative activities that help bring old posts back to life and re-engage past active members by being involved in the communities more and assisting other groups that help veterans and their families;

- STUDENTS/SCHOOLs we must be more involved in our schools and with educators than just our scholarship and teacher recognition programs.  Every student should have a veteran to look up to, and every educator and administrator should have a trusted veteran they can call.

 The Great State of Missouri is full of great veterans and together we can be greater.

I ask for your support this year as we move into a new term.

I’m hopeful we will all be  "Gung-Ho” – working TOGETHER enthusiastically towards a common goal!

FOR VETERANS BY VETERANS!

Department VSO Information

A Veteran Service Officer (VSO) helps veterans, and their families navigate the complex process of applying for benefits and services from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). They assist with filing claims for disability compensation, pensions, healthcare, education benefits, and other services. VSOs also help veterans gather necessary documentation, ensure claims are properly submitted, and guide them through appeals if their claims are denied. VSO's act as advocates, making sure veterans get the benefits they are entitled to.

Editorial from the Webmasters

The Department of Missouri Website is a living document dedicated to Missouri Veterans.  The site is for the dissemination of news, information and ideas to the membership.  With that said, we are asking members to share their activities and stories with us to pass along.  We are wanting committee chairpersons to share what they are doing on a more regular basis.  Receiving updates quarterly at the COA convention is fine, but it does not reflect current activities.  We would like to publish a Newsletter at least Monthly to keep the membership in tune with the latest happenings.  In addition, we know that several members were taking pictures at the COA.  We would love to have you share them with us to post on the Department Gallery.  All you need to do is email them to us with a description and we will do the rest.
Become an active participant in the Department Website.  This is your chance to participate.
